Ailanthus Spaceframe

Ingo Vetter & Tree of Heaven Woodshop

  • A historic picture of the building before the removal of the upper floor in the late 1950s.

A site-specific installation at Künstlerhaus Sootbörn, a famous Bauhaus architecture from the late 1920s in Hamburg. The upper floor of the building was removed in the late 1950s due to the extension and building of a new entry lane of the close by airport.

The Ailanthus Spaceframe emulates the window grid and former dimensions of the building, while the crooked branches of the Ailanthus tree succesfully resist this plan.
